Learning & Information
Each term (usually near the end) there is at least one ‘general’ assembly during which all of the children share an aspect of their learning with their parents. In addition, each year group takes a turn putting on a ‘single year’ assembly for the benefit of both parents and the rest of the school.
Smaller children are welcome at the more general assemblies, but we would ask that you encourage them to listen and sit still. We ask parents not to bring smaller children into the ‘single year’ assemblies so that you can focus on your older child’s performance (and it is less disruptive for everyone in general, too). To help make this possible, there is a crèche system in place to care for the younger ones during those assemblies.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CRECHE IS ONLY RUN DURING SINGLE YEAR ASSEMBLIES!
The crèche system is FREE, but can only function if parents also volunteer to help. We are not allowed to pay anyone to ‘man’ the crèche as it would not be covered by insurance if we did (parent volunteers are covered under the PA insurance). It is therefore essential that we all find a way to help each other wherever possible – you help at the crèche during one of the other single year assemblies in exchange for someone doing the same during your child’s assembly.
It is also extremely important to book a place in the crèche as soon as possible so that we can made sure there will be enough helpers to take care of the crèche. You don’t need to wait until closer to the date – you can book as soon as the assembly dates are published, and if you wait until the last minute, there is no guarantee that we will have enough help to accommodate your child!
In case you are wondering what’s involved:
If you volunteer, you can bring your own toddler(s) with you.
The assemblies are usually only about ½ hour long – from 9.15 to 9.45am, so the time commitment is quite minimal.
The crèche is held in the staffroom.
